O. o. Bogomolets National Medical University (NMU) a medical school founded in 1841 in Kyiv, is leading medical educational institution in Ukraine. NMU provides medical training for over 10,000 students, including about 1,300 foreigners from 56 countries. .NMU provides training of specialists for practical health care on both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
History of the University dates back to the oldest medical faculty of Vilnius Academy (1579), and later the Imperial University of Vilnius (1803), but the official date of its foundation is 1841, when on its basis the medical faculty at Imperial St. Volodymyr University in Kyiv was opened; in 1921 it received the status of the Kyiv Medical Institute, in 1946 the Institute was given the name of the President of Academy of Sciences of UkrSSR O.O. Bogomolets and in 1995 the Institute an received the status of the Bogomolets National Medical University.
In 2016, the University has celebrated the 175th anniversary of its foundation.
As the crucial goal of its multidirectional activity the University considers successful implementation of the state policy in the area of higher medical and pharmaceutical education, science and healthcare to achieve the highest quality of professionals’ training, competitiveness of the University and its graduates on the market of educational services and scientific researchers, their correspondence to the standards of the national and world labor market. The University’s mission is leadership in the domain of training highly professional specialists and research personnel for the healthcare, which is implemented through a harmonic combination of fundamental and professional education, research, a formation of modern doctor’s and pharmacist’s personality, integration into the European educational and scientific community.
The University has highly professional faculty: an academic process is provided by 1456 professors, including 204 Doctors of Sciences and 855 Ph.D. It has 10 faculties, Institute of Postgraduate Education, 87 chairs and 2 research institutes (Institute of Hygiene and Ecology, Institute of Experimental and Clinical Medicine). The University comprises Dental Center as the University hospital. The Center has 300 dental units and is equipped with modern diagnostic and therapeutic devices according to the European standards. Approximately 1400 patients visit the Dental Center daily. The NMU cooperates with the Access Community Health Network (ACCESS) and Pritzker Medical School (Chicago University) in issues of efficient organization and providing of medical services in university hospitals of primary medical care/ family medicine, with Gansu Provincial Health Department and Gansu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in study of alternative methods of treatment, with the Albert School of Medicine at Brown University in issues of tuberculosis treatment.

For the recent years, the University has achieved stable financial and economic condition which gives an opportunity to conduct academic process, research and develop the material-technical base of the institution according to the European standards.
