Nanjing Medical University was founded in 1934 as Jiangsu Provincial College of Health Policy and Management. It adopted its current name Nanjing Medical University in 1993.
The University consists of 19 academic schools. It has 24 affiliated hospitals and more than 50 teaching hospitals. Presently the University has more than 1,780 employees including 884 skilled teachers. The university is the training base for the High Level Talent Training Plan of Jiangsu Province, which is also known as the "333 Project".
The university has two campuses, Jiangning and Wutai. NMU is responsible for publishing 11 academic journals. The School of International Education (SIE) of Nanjing Medical University was founded in June 2005, with altogether 17 administrative staffers at present. Currently, SIE has enrolled more than 1,100 international students and they are mainly from the following countries: India, Nepal, Pakistan, South Korea, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Afghanistan, United States, South Africa, Mauritius, Japan and Egypt.
The university has extensively carried out exchange activities and has actively developed multi-model relationships and cooperation with other colleges and universities like medical colleges and institutions in the U.S.A., Canada, Australia, Sweden, Japan, Taiwan Province, and Hong Kong SAR, etc. SIE has developed active and extensive cooperation with foreign institutions, such as Wayne State University and Creighton University in U.S.A.; University of Manchester in the UK; University of Gothenburg and Karolinska Institute in Sweden; Western University in Canada and Queensland University of Technology in Australia. So far, SIE has sent several teachers to study in U.S.A., UK, Canada and Australia to improve their ability to teach the international students.
For fourteen years, the SIE has consistently placed emphasis on quality education. Through careful planning and a considered, step-by-step approach in designing its curriculum, the School has developed well and has established its own pedagogical character. SIE will always adhere to the motto of "Pursue excellent with erudition, reach perfection with morality" and is dedicated in cultivating international medical talents and striving to promote worldwide medical progress and cultural exchange among different countries and regions.
